Vehicle categories in Hungary
Hungary sorts vehicles into categories by type and number of seats. The category sets the price, so check yours before you buy.
D1M – motorcycles
Motorcycles. The cheapest e-Matrica category.
D1 – passenger cars
Passenger vehicles up to 3.5 t with no more than 7 seats including the driver. The most common category.
D2 – vehicles with more seats
Vehicles up to 3.5 t designed to carry more than 7 people – typically minibuses and larger crew vans.
U – trailers
Trailers and caravans towed by category D2 vehicles. The U vignette can be registered to the license plate of the trailer or the towing vehicle.

When does a trailer need a separate vignette?
In Hungary, trailers and caravans towed by category D2 vehicles require a separate U motorway vignette. When travelling with such a combination, you therefore need two vignettes – one for the towing vehicle and one for the trailer. The U vignette can be registered to the license plate of either the trailer or the towing vehicle. Trailers towed by category D1 vehicles do not require a separate vignette.

How to Order Your Electronic vignette?
Hungarian vignettes are divided into categories D1M (motorcycles), D1 (passenger vehicles), D2 (vehicles up to 3.5 t designed to carry more than 7 people) and U for trailers. After entering the license plate number and registration country, simply select the appropriate category.
Continue by selecting a 1-day, 10-day, monthly or annual vignette. For regular travel within a single region, you can also choose an annual county vignette. Finally, set the start date.
Enter the email address where you want the registration confirmation and receipt sent. Optionally, you can set a notification before your electronic motorway vignette expires.
